HR must take leading role in combating
stress
Personnel Today, 21 Oct 03
The results of an exclusive survey, Stress in the UK Workplace, by Personnel
Today and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), show that the majority
of HR professionals fear the problem is set to become even worse.
More than half (52 per cent) of the 700 senior practitioners who responded
believe workplace stress is on the increase, compared with just 7 per
cent who said it was decreasing.
Furthermore, 83 per cent believe high levels of stress are damaging the
UK's attempts to bridge the productivity gap with its main global competitors.
The stress epidemic is also hampering HR's day-to-day effectiveness,
with 60 per cent claiming that stress is harming staff retention, and
27 per cent citing that perceived levels of stress damage recruitment
efforts.
